Steve Sainton is a native of Dallas. Born and raised in South Oak Cliff, he has been a part of the Dallas music scene since 1966. His Dad required all his brothers and sister to learn to play some sort of musical instrument. In fact, Mr. Sainton went down to Watkin's music in Oak Cliff and outfitted the entire family with all the gear to they needed to complete a band. Steve picked up the guitar, took some lessons, but eventually settled on the Farfisa organ. After a few starter bands, Steve became the organ player for "The Mint" in 1968. The Mint became popular playing all over Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. The Mint's "claim to fame" came in 1970 when they were chosen to be the top band out of 5 to record on the album "A New High." A New High also featured a guy from Oak Cliff named Steve Vaughn who would later go on to….well, I think you may have heard of him. The Mint mutated into several different bands including one that backed "The Original Coasters". Don't ask Steve to play "Charlie Brown" or "Yakitty Yak, he might say something distasteful.
Steve took time off to go to Stephen F. Austin College, start a family and build a business. After selling his ski boat in 1994, he spent that money on vintage guitars and amps. Growing up with a steady diet of rock 'n roll, Steve immersed himself in the blues at that point. His wife, Diane suggested he join a band and quit making so much noise around the house. Bass guitar quickly became his favorite instrument. So, after stints with Stereo Lounge, Southern Comfort and Kharmakazee, Steve found his home with The Boogiemen in 2002. Steve can play guitar and keys, but prefers to influence the rhythm by playing bass.
His style is derived from studio greats James Jamerson and Carol Kaye, but his friend Michael Holmes (the best bassist in DFW) gave him the tips and pointers necessary to hold down a gig with quality band.
His day job consists of building luxury custom homes, small office buildings and retail spaces. He is very proud to have two great daughters, a loving wife, two dogs, one cat and one main hobby (the band). Other hobbies include woodworking, collecting guitars, skiing (water & snow), trading on e-bay and watching TV.
